How is the Allurion Gastric Balloon placed?
The Allurion Balloon is placed by a certified doctor during an outpatient consultation: no surgery, anesthesia, or endoscopy required.2

You swallow the Allurion Smart Capsule containing the deflated balloon, attached to a thin tube (catheter).
A first X-ray is done to ensure the capsule is placed correctly in your stomach.
The doctor uses the catheter to fill the balloon with 550ml of liquid.
A second X-ray is done to ensure the balloon is filled correctly.
The catheter is gently removed and the placement is complete. Once your doctor ensures you are comfortable, you may head home.
How is the Allurion Gastric Balloon removed?
The balloon occupies space within the stomach, promoting a feeling of fullness and reducing food intake. After approximately 16 weeks, the Allurion Balloon empties through a patented Release Valve and is naturally eliminated.

- The Allurion Balloon is a medical device indicated for short-term limited weight loss treatment in adults between 22 years and 65 years old who live with excess weight or obesity with a body mass index (BMI) from 30 to 40 kg/m2 who have had at least one unsuccessful attempt at a weight loss program.
- The mean residence time for the Allurion Balloon is variable with an average observed residence time of 15.3 weeks. The Allurion Gastric Balloon System (AGBS) is to be used in conjunction with a moderate intensity lifestyle modification therapy program.
